The Task

The Problem to be Solved: You will use The Grammar Supermarket to refresh your understanding of some of the most common errors in student writing. As you search the aisles, you will be able to try out different products to determine if they are helpful to you or not.

Processing and Transforming your New Information: Once you have successfully completed checkout (during which you demonstrate your new understanding about the grammar and conventions issue), then you will need to use that new knowledge to revise whatever draft caused you to be sent to The Grammar Supermarket. Don't worry, it will be fun!!

Personal Insight to be Articulated: (For members of the Frequent Shoppers Club only) The reflective piece will ask you to consider your personal writing process and the potential roadblocks. Finally, you must formulate a written plan to improve your written communication skills. Be mindful of the fact that graduation is less than a year away. Plan how to overcome this challenge when you no longer have the safety net of school.

The Process

1. First, you will be sent to The Grammar Supermarket by Mrs. Macchi. This referral is most likely the result of the submission of a draft that contains the same type of error repeatedly. One example would be failing to capitalize correctly. Mrs. Macchi will provide you with a shopping list, that is items that you need to pick up in order to improve your communication skills.

2. Next, enter the supermarket
   Enter the Grammar Supermarket

and begin to peruse the aisles with your shopping cart.  You will find a few products labeled Capitalization Rules (or many other common errors). It is up to you to select and complete the product or products that correspond with your shopping list. You may use additional products if you wish. Since we all have different learning styles, I have included at least one tutorial (text-based or PowerPoint) and one hands-on product for each category. You may use one product,  or you may use them all. You are in control of your learning, but you must learn in order to complete the checkout process.

3. Enter Checkout
After completing your shopping, you must have learned enough to get through the checkout process. First, you must pass the appropriate quiz with a score that averages 70% or above. Next, you must use your new knowledge to revise your original draft. Use the email feature at checkout to send me your checkout results along with your revised draft.

PLEASE NOTE: YOUR DRAFT GRADE REMAINS INCOMPLETE UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE ENTIRE PROCESS.

4. Enter the Frequent Shopper Club
The Frequent Shopper Club is a must for anyone who has been sent to the Grammar Supermarket twice for the same error or more than three times in any semester. The Frequent Shopper Club offers the chance to reflect on your communication needs and to formulate a strategy for improvement.

PLEASE NOTE: YOUR DRAFT GRADE REMAINS INCOMPLETE UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE ENTIRE PROCESS.

Conclusion
You are now prepared to take responsibility for your own writing. No-one knows everything there is to know about clear and concise writing. However, some of us  have a trick up our sleeve. We know how to find the information that we need. Now, you also have this power at your disposal. This WebQuest was about more than editing this particular writing assignment. It was about teaching you to utilize resources and create a plan to communicate as a professional once you leave the classroom. Good luck out there.
